My OS is windows XP, and I used Visual studio.NET 2003
I have successfully built the toxic-1.0-alpha-4-src project as instructions said.
then, I copied the "scenes" directory from toxic-1.0-alpha-4-bin-win32 package to toxic-1.0-alpha-4-src\toxic\working\

Then, in toxic-1.0-alpha-4-src\toxic\working\\scenes\cornellbox

I run:
..\..\bin\toxic cornellbox.xml -o cornellbox2.png -w 64 -h 64
, it failed with the messages below:

F:\toxic-1.0-alpha-4-src\toxic\working\scenes\cornellbox>..\..\bin\toxic cornellbox.xml -o cornellbox2.png -w 64 -h 64

toxic error: Could not load the settings file 'cornellbox.settings.xml'.

I am newbie in Blender 3D and Toxic render. I try installing toxic for Blender, i read tutorial from http://www.toxicx.toxicengine.org/tutorial.php but this toxic cannot loading and i confuse about : (Put the script into C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\Blender\.blender\scripts in Windows Me, Xp, or 98, or in the scripts folder under Blender in the application data folder in My Documents.) this is from Tutorial.. what mean and what Script?
Please Help me !

if you run toxic.exe from the command line you will get all the options:

Global Photon Map (GPM) settings
--load-gpm <filename>: read GPM from disk

--save-cpm <filename>: write CPM to disk
Miscellaneous settings
--driver-settings <filename> or -ds <filename>: specify driver settings file name.
By default, driver settings are read from {TOXICHOME}/settings/toxicsettings.xml
--scene-settings <filename> or -ss <filename>: specify scene settings file name.
By default, settings for scene bunny.xml are read from ./bunny.settings.xml
--skip-render: skip the rendering part (do not produce an image)
--help: display this help message and exit

I have a toxic folder in my Program Files directory which is why all the files paths are listed this way, for you all the paths will be wherever you have toxic.exe

Hi,

I am new to this site and am looking for a little help with toxic.
It may be possible that I am missing something, but I can't seem to find a list of command line options for the program. There�s nothing with the toxic download and I've done a search of this site. Is there such a list?

I like the idea, i have no skills in computing myself but i wish you good luck!

I culd test/try out ports on my macs, got a G3 osx 10.2 and G5 osx 10.3.

Id like to use the G5 for rendering, its so quiet..

The next thing setting I play with is StratifiedSampling on PrimaryFinalGathering. In these scene it is set to 32, I cut that in half to 16 and is dropped the render time to 2 minutes:

When switching back and forth between these images the front face of the front cube has more grain in this render, however I think that the quality is still acceptable.

For indirect lighting shots these are the three settings I play with first.

On my computer this image takes 7 minutes to render:

The setting I find that makes the most difference is the maxdepth on WhittedAdaptiveSampling. By changing this from 3 to 2 I cut two minutes off of the render time, and the image looks the same:

This settings has a huge effect on the aliasing on the edges of models so watch out for that when you are tweaking settings.

Next I changed the contrastthreshold to 0.1, this shaved 1 minute off the render time and still no noticeable change in the render:

I just rendered the sample cornell box scene to see the result and it took eleven minutes. I run a P4 3Ghz and 512Mb ram, is there anyway of speeding it up without sacrificing quality? Mulithreading?

You can also thought a width and height in there too.
